Soil adsorption study of Dimethoate to evaluate its leaching potential by spectrophotometry

چکیده
With a view to study the leaching potential and consequently surface and ground water contamination, the adsorption of dimethoate on five soils of different characteristics has been carried out by using a batch equilibrium technique. A spectrophotometric methodology based on the reaction of thioglycolic acid, formed from microwave assisted alkaline hydrolysis of dimethoate, with carbon disulfide and nickel(II) acetate to form methyl isobutyl ketone extractable yellow colored nickel(II)-thioxanthate complex showing λmax at 378 nm has been developed for the purpose. The molar absorptivity (ε) and Sandell’s sensitivity were found to be 1.2×10 3 L/mol cm and 0.19 μg/cm 2 respectively. The leaching potential has been evaluated by Groundwater Ubiquity Score (GUS) and the values obtained in the range 1.85-2.45 classify dimethoate as a transition pesticide and thereby it poses a potential risk to the aquatic environment.

This study was aimed to assess the adsorption and leaching potential of imidacloprid pesticide in column and field soil. To understand mechanism of adsorption and factors affecting, the experiments were carried out under laboratory and field conditions. Adsorption study was divided into kinetic and equilibrium sections. The evaluation of kinetic data was done through pseudo first and second ord...
متن کاملLeaching risk of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in soil receiving reclaimed wastewater.
N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is a potential carcinogen frequently found in treated wastewater as a byproduct of chlorination. The potential for NDMA to contaminate the groundwater is a significant concern. A solute fate and transport model, Hydrus-1D, was used to evaluate the leaching potential of NDMA under different irrigation practices and soil properties. The results indicate that the risk...
متن کاملRelease potential of phosphorus in Florida sandy soils in relation to phosphorus fractions and adsorption capacity.
Information on P release potential in relation to labile P and P fractions in sandy soils is limited. In this study, P release potential was determined by leaching, and labile P, soil P fractionation, and P adsorption capacity were measured in the laboratory using 96 Florida sandy soil samples to evaluate the relationship between P release in water and soil P status. The sandy soils had a very ...

Kresoxim-methyl, a new broad spectrum foliar-applied strobilurin group of fungicide, undergoes rapid transformation in soil to form acid metabolite. In this paper, adsorption-desorption, leaching and persistence behaviour of kresoxim-methyl and its acid metabolite in Delhi (Inceptisol) soil has been investigated. The adsorption studies were carried out at initial concentrations of 1.5, 1, 0.8, ...

Zeolites are substances that have been renowned for their remarkable nitrogen adsorption capacity resulting of decrease in leaching rate of soil nitrogen. This research was conducted to study the effect of the zeolite dosage, zeolite particle size and the method of application on the nitrate leaching of the soil irrigated by treated wastewater (TWW). All of the adsorption tests were carried ...
